Force 10, formerly Turin Networks, places platform with federal lab

SAN JOSE, PETALUMA -- Force 10 Networks, formerly Turin Networks, won a high-profile customer for its recently released ExaScale network platform. The Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Labs selected the Force 10 platform to power its network.

The win, in a significant market segment like the federal government, will give Force 10 an opportunity to secure business related to the broadband stimulus funding program.

"For more than 60 years the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory has been pushing the boundaries of numerous scientific disciplines, and that has always required cutting-edge research tools," said Vincent Bonafede, manager of the Network Operations Group for the lab.

"To explore new frontiers of science it is important to use a next-generation, high-performance network with ultra-high, non-blocking throughput like the ExaScale."

Seven hundred-employee Force 10 is headquartered in San Jose but still employs 150 at the former Turin location in Petaluma. The company, administered by the Turin Network
