$1 million in new diagnostic capabilities; renovations to buildings
SANTA ROSA, PETALUMA – Redwood Regional Medical Group announced plans to complete about $2 million in expansion, including adding new equipment and completing interior renovations.
“Health care is changing so much, and we’ve had to decide where to make our investments so that the practice maintains financial viability and the highest quality services to the community,” said Wayne Fairchild, interim chief executive officer for the group.
Mr. Fairchild said the improvements are aimed at expanding breast and prostate services and resulted from about a year of strategic planning. The project called for the purchase of about $1 million in new equipment, including two digital mammography machines that will speed up diagnostic capabilities currently performed with film scanners.
Two buildings will also be remodeled to accommodate the new technology. Waiting areas, procedure rooms and offices will rotate and adjust in the group’s 121 Sotoyome St. campus in Santa Rosa and the 110 Lynch Creek Way Petaluma office.
Construction will begin first in Santa Rosa sometime between now and the end of March, followed by the south Sonoma County office ground-breaking about a month later. Officials are currently completing the permitting process for construction, but they hope to finish the project by September.
Initially, the group considered moving the women’s imaging services to the administrative space at 185 Sotoyome and relocating that office to another building, but officials decided the project would require more construction than refiguring the women’s center.
Redwood increased its prostate expertise last year with the addition of a new specialty surgeon that joined from out of state in April, and the physicians are in the process of planning further additions to that program.
Mr. Fairchild joined the group last fall.
Redwood Regional is the largest privately owned physician organization in the North Bay, serving more than 500 patients a day from 10 campuses and with close to 350 physicians and health care providers.
