Business Journal conference to explore green initiatives, business impacts

NORTH BAY - The Business Journal will hold its second-annual Going Green Conference on Oct. 8 at the Doubletree Hotel in Rohnert Park. Two panel discussions will look at how new regulations and policy changes are transforming the sustainability movement from a trend to a reality and what resources are available for business owners and managers to prepare for compliance.

In the first panel, regional experts from each of the North Bay counties appointed to implement climate protection policies will discuss local government efforts under way, helping businesses understand the regulations and changes coming down the pipe and how they will affect them. Speakers include Richard Schorske, climate action director for Marin Climate & Energy Partnership; Eliot Hurwitz, program manager with the Napa County Transportation Planning Agency; and David Brennan, regional climate protection coordinator for the Sonoma County Transportation Authority.

With changing requirements for building owners and tenants spurring a need for new projects, presenters in the second panel will provide an overview of a variety of funding resources available for green and energy-efficiency upgrades. Speakers include Amy Bolten, public information officer for the Sonoma County Water Agency, which is leading the Sonoma County Energy Independence Program, and Gopal Shanker, president of Rècolte Energy, an energy consultant working with businesses to implement energy-saving practices using a variety of technologies.

Registration for the event will be 7:30 a.m., with the program from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $49 per person or $510 for a table of 10, including company name on the table. To register, call 707-521-5264 or go online to www.northbaybusinessjournal.com.
