Mendocino court closing

MENDOCINO COUNTY – Willits’ high court will permanently close Dec. 31, according to a release citing inadequate state funding.

Mendocino Superior Court made the announcement Oct. 1, saying state budget cuts combined with exhausted mitigation funding will leave the central county branch without enough funding by year’s end. Beginning Jan. 2, all cases will be handled in the Ukiah location.

The court lost about 12 percent of its budget with the new state budget. The office employs seven workers, whose union is currently negotiating with the court.
