SANTA ROSA – The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors appointed Bill Keene as general manager of the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. Mr. Keene has served as interim head since April when former manager Andrea Mackenzie stepped down.

“We feel that Bill has the right combination of vision, leadership and history of serving the community to advance the district during this time of change and opportunity,” said Fourth District Supervisor Paul Kelley.

Mr. Keene was assistant general manager of the district since July 2008, serving as program manager of the water agency’s Sonoma Valley Groundwater Management Program prior. He has experience building partnerships throughout the region with water agencies, municipalities, business interests, agricultural groups and nonprofits as well as with organizations focused on water resources, natural resources management, land-use planning, climate change and watershed management.

The district is responsible for stewardship of nearly 8,000 acres, many awaiting transfer to regional and state parks.
