SANTA ROSA — Skyhawk Village Market was scheduled to close its grocery operations last week after three years of operation, although the owners plan to continue to operate the restaurant.

In a letter to customers, owners Mike Runyan and Todd Davis cited the economy’s impact on business. The restaurant will remain open while they search for a buyer for the store.

Wow, I am so sad over this! What a great store, staff and selection of food not to mention pizza… Difficult times for small businesses. :(

This is terrible! It is a great concept and wonderful execution. The products, especially meats, fish, produce, could not be beat… Todd, you and the crew will be missed by the St. Francis Team, expecially me!

There is no need for a “high end” market in that area. Olivers and Safeway are too close. Olivers a specialty store and Safeway for bargaining. Maybe you should take a survey in the Skyhawk area and find what people would want most in your store that would keep them from traveling to the other stores. What basic items they run out of? and then stock them. And then have your stores signature on the deli and prepackaged food. Lets face it people aren’t going to grocery shop there, you are in fact a convenience store but you need to find what the items are that people would stop for and have your store specialty items visible and let the invisible hand do its work.

I am sorry to see them go, they tried hard to bring quality food to the area. I’m sure they worked very hard in order to make it work, good luck to the owners on their next venture

Not surprising. I stepped into the store about 1 1/2 years ago. The service was surly. I was ignored while the staff was too busy chatting with their friends who hanged out (who were buying nothing). The chocolate cake I paid a premium price for was dry and stale.

The question one could pose to the owners is that if ” the economic situation’s negative impact on business as the reason for the closure” why are other high end markets continuing to do well? As for me, I took my shopping over to Whole Foods. My experience there was always far more positive.

WE just moved into the neighborhood and looked forward to making SHVM our grocery store of choice. We were enjoying their pizza and friendly staff. They were quality all the way. Sorry to see them go and wish them well. Kudo’s to Dee and Michael for their great pizzas!
    We’ll miss you.
