Soil restoration workshop to be held this weekend

SEBASTOPOL -- Growers and gardeners should be alert to a soil restoration workshop held this weekend in Sebastopol. Ian Davidson, adviser for Soil Foodweb Inc. and president of BioLogic Systems will be talking about new soil analysis technology and composting methods to bring back microorganisms to damaged earth.

"Reintroducing fungal and bacterial properties that have been lost through misguided farming methods can result in a 30-70 percent reduction in water use and no need at all for herbicides and pesticides," said Black Lab founder Michael McCarthy.

The workshop is donations-based, locally sponsored by Black Lab Agriculture, a startup dedicated to finding new solutions to managing landscape, garden, vineyard, pasture and orchard soil. It will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Masonic Center in Sebastopol. To reserve a seat, call 707-239-2500 or e-mail blacklabagriculture@gmail.com.
