Board approves resolution for services district

SANTA ROSA – The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution submitted by the Mark West Community Services Committee that will allow it to submit an application to the Sonoma Local Agency Formation Committee (LAFCO) to form a community services district (CSD). The county entered into a franchise agreement with California-American Water Co., effective Jan. 1, which will help it provide a portion of the new district's start-up and operational costs.

LAFCO will next conduct a feasibility study of a Mark West CSD, and if findings show it is feasible, approve formation. A public vote will then be needed for final district formation. The proposed district would assume responsibility for street lighting, landscaping, enhanced levels of sheriff protection, solid waste management, parks and recreation and domestic water.
