Napa prescription cards used 1,000 times in a year

NAPA -- Less than a year after its implementation, Napa County health officials announced Monday that users of the prescription drug discount card have saved an average of  $19 on the most common drugs on more than 1,000 prescriptions.

The free card was initially launched last summer with the National Association of Counties to help offset the rising costs of prescribed medications for Napa residents of all income levels.

“This is exactly the effect I hoped this program would have in Napa County,” Third District Supervisor and Board Chair Diane Dillon said in a statement. “I encourage anyone who is concerned about the cost of prescription medications to get a free card.”

The card is available with no paperwork or enrollment requirements at 21 locations around Napa County, which are listed along with the participating pharmacies at www.countyofnapa.org/rxcard.
