Green

The Novato-based Bay Institute announced that during the 2009-2010 restoration season from September to March, more than 2,800 students, 400 parents and 90 teachers from 36 schools completed restoration work on streams, tributaries and wetlands in Marin, Sonoma, Solano and Napa counties through its STRAW program – Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed.

Manufacturing

Petaluma-based CamelBak signed an agreement to provide Team Luna Chix with water bottles and hydration packs specifically designed and engineered for women. Team Luna Chix features professional athletes and local teams competing in mountain bike races, triathlons and other sports.

Wine

Glen Ellen-based Benziger Family Winery launched an “eco-friendly” packaging initiative that includes lighter bottles and new labels. The new bottles weigh 30 percent less than a traditional wine bottle, which amounts to 289,600 pounds of glass saved per year, as well as the resources required to ship that weight.

Markham Vineyards in the Napa Valley called for submissions for the third-annual Mark of Distinction grants initiative.  Markham Vineyards will award two $25,000 grants to individuals or organizations committed to the betterment of their neighborhoods, cities or towns.

Candidates can submit their 300-word proposals, including a brief budget and timeline detailing how and when project funds will be used, to www.markhammarkofdistinction.com until July 19.
