SONOMA — Nelson Family of Companies, the North Bay’s largest staffing firm, has named Catherine Candland as its new chief executive officer.

Ms. Candland takes the place of Gary Nelson, who founded the company in 1970. He will remain as chairman of the board.

Ms. Candland founded Advantage Human Resourcing in 1985 and worked as its CEO for 24 years, before selling the company to Crystal Company in 2004.

While with Advantage, Ms.  Candland helped the business grow from a single office start up into a $230 million global company, according to Nelson.

“I’m very pleased about my new role with the Nelson Family of Companies,” she said in a statement. “This is a progressive organization with a history of innovation, sound decision making and client loyalty.”

In addition to working as the CEO of Advantage, Ms. Candland served on the New York Federal Reserve Bank Board of Small Businesses as well as the Connecticut Governor’s Council on Economic Competiveness and Technology. She will relocate from Connecticut to the Bay Area.
