GREENBRAE – The Marin Healthcare District announced the formation of an oversight board consisting of 10 nominees for Marin General Hospital as it transitions from Sutter Health Systems into a community-owned hospital.
At its board meeting Tuesday, the district said the nominees, who were selected over the past several months, are expected to be voted on officially by June 8, at which point they will help with the transition of ownership from Sutter Health on June 29.
The board of directors of the district sought to fill the positions with individuals familiar with Marin and the county’s needs.
“I’m quite pleased we could find these people in Marin,” said Jennifer Rienks, secretary of the board.
“This is potentially a model for other health care districts,” Ms. Rienks continued, referring to the efforts to separate from Sutter Health. “I know a lot of community hospitals joined big systems because they thought that was the only answer.”
The newly formed board at Marin General will report “on a wide range of significant measures, providing a much higher level of transparency than has been provided to the public in the past,” the district said in a statement.
The nominees include: Harvey Bichkoff, Jeremy Fair, David Hill, Ann Kao, Paul Kirincic, Gene Marie O’Connell, Derek Parker, Mara Perez, Steven Schroeder, Timothy Sowerby and Lee Domanico, who is the current chief executive officer of the district.
Two additional members will be added in June, both of whom will be selected and voted for by the newly formed hospital operating board.
