SONOMA COUNTY – Petaluma High School along with the Petaluma Joint Union High School District and the Sonoma County Office of Education both received a $100,000 Tech Prep Demonstration Site Grant for 2010-2011 from the California Department of Education.

Petaluma’s grant is in the area of manufacturing and product development with an emphasis in machine tool technology. SCOE’s grant will support career education in health science and medical technology with an emphasis on biotech, and it also includes a funding component for a career awareness and exploration program for students in grades 7-8.

The grants were two of only 18 given in the first round of applications. Grant partners will share the program of study and other work developed with consortium partners in the local area, region and throughout the state.
