Communications

Verizon Wireless installed a new cell site in Tomales, enabling residents and travelers in West Marin to do wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Web. The site expands 3G wireless coverage along Highway 1, east on Tomales-Petaluma Road and west on Dillon Beach Road.

Green

Assemblymember Jared Huffman presented his September Sustainable North Bay Award to Local Flora of San Anselmo. Flowers are primarily organic and Veriflora sustainably certified, all green waste is composted, no toxic florist design materials such as floral foam are utilized, and biodiesel trucks are used for deliveries. Local Flora’s shop was built using recycled barn wood and reclaimed materials without any new lumber.

Technology

Santa Rosa-based SenarioTek, a provider of custom RF/microwave test and measurement solutions, was awarded a contract by Orbital Sciences Corp. of Virginia to provide test technology for Orbital’s installed payload test systems for the HYLAS 2 satellite payload. In addition, SenarioTek has teamed with DelSontro Enterprises to provide Orbital a total solution of hardware, software and final integration and validation.

Wine

Korbel Champagne Cellars near Guerneville will donate one dollar to the Toast Life Foundation for every person who becomes a new fan of Korbel on Facebook through the end of October. Also, Korbel will match donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Facebook Causes through the end of the year up to $10,000.
