FAIRFAX -- Good Earth Natural & Organic Foods today announced plans to relocate next fall to a larger space in a former Albertsons store in Fairfax.
The grocer signed a long-term lease for the 20,000-square-foot space in Fair-Anselm Plaza, located at 720 Center Blvd. Started in 1969, Good Earth currently is located at 1966 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in Fairfax.
The store is targeted for an October opening. Preliminary store design is under way. CDM Real Estate is the project manager.
Preliminary plans call for a "sustainable redesign" that would include "daylighting," or adding windows to allow natural light to illuminate the space, construction of a clerestory, water and recycling systems, permeable asphalt, solar panels and other ecologically sustainable features.

LRG Capital Real Estate Partners I, an affiliate of Larkspur-based LRG Capital Group, acquired a master lease for the four-building, 66,000-square-foot center in May and plans to purchase the property in April 2011, according to the firm.
“The Good Earth lease is an important step to revitalizing the retail property that the LRGREP I controls on Center Boulevard on the eastside of Fairfax,” said Geoffrey Koblick, one of the managers of the LRG Capital Real Estate Partners I.
With the Good Earth lease, the center will be 86 percent occupied, according to the firm.
Al Baylacq, one of four partners of Good Earth, said the store, LRG and the town want "a high overall level of green-ness."
"The renovation of the building will be very thorough -- a complete remarkable overhaul," he said.
