Napa, Windsor poll their residents

The governments of Napa and Windsor are asking their residents to submit their ideas for upcoming long-range planning sessions.

Windsor residents are set to receive 17-question surveys this week, and extras are available at the Town Hall, located in Building 400 at 9291 Old Redwood Highway. The town would like the surveys returned by Jan. 18.

The 17 questions cover demographics, the current uses in the downtown area and preferences for what will be there in the next 25 years. Covered are land-use questions about areas for expansion, building heights, ways for pedestrians to get around and public amenities and economic-development questions about opportunities for businesses.

This input will be incorporated into a downtown station area plan, which is being created with funding from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The plan will inform transit-oriented development around the town's transit station, located along the railroad tracks at the intersection of Windsor River road and Windsor roads.

The station area plan will replace the town's 1997 Downtown Plan, align development with greenhouse-gas-reduction targets and expand on the recommendations in the 2009 Sustainable Design Assessment Team report and the 2008 Economic Development Strategic Plan.

The city of Napa would like its residents to complete this Internet-based Community Climate survey also by Jan. 18. City Council members will discuss the results at their annual priorities- and goal-setting retreat Jan. 28 and 29.

The survey gauges community priorities and satisfaction with quality of life and city services.
