Construction symposium planned for SMART

PETALUMA – The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit will conduct a symposium for the construction industry as it prepares to put out a Request for Qualifications at the beginning of February. The meeting will be Jan. 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 320 N. McDowell Blvd. in Petaluma.

SMART will implement a 40-mile Initial Operating Segment for passenger rail service in an existing freight rail corridor between San Rafael and Santa Rosa. One of the first contracts will be the reconstruction of the track, grade crossings and minor bridges. It will be a design-build contract awarded through a two-step procurement process, including a qualification step and a proposal step. For more information, go to www.sonomamarintrain.org.
