Agilent locally based group revenues rise 31 percent

SANTA ROSA -- Fiscal first-quarter orders and revenues for Agilent Technologies (NYSE: A) Electronic Measurement Group, which is based in Santa Rosa, both increased 31 percent from a year before.

Those increases, excluding  divestitures, included strong growth in the communications business as well as in industrial, computers and semiconductor markets.

"Smartphones gave us 45 percent growth in our telecommunications sector," said Ron Nersesian, president of the Electronic Measurement Group.

The group showed strong growth in all global regions, he said. Orders from China jumped 44 percent, and the domestic market 20 percent.

"We're in a very strong position competitively," said Mr. Nersesian. "There's no predicting what will happen to global manufacturing, what with high debt and deficits and inflation. But if the economy continues to strengthen, we at Agilent will continue to do well."

Agilent employs 1,100 in Santa Rosa.
