Autodesk revenue grows 16 percent in fourth quarter, 14 percent for year

SAN RAFAEL -- Autodesk (Nasdaq: ADSK) today reported 16 percent fourth-quarter revenue growth from a year before  and 14 percent growth for the fiscal year.

Revenues were $528 million for the quarter and $1.95 billion for the fiscal year, which ended Jan. 31.

The company is benefiting from a global increase in demand for 3-D design, engineering and entertainment media creation software, according to Carl Bass, Autodesk president and chief executive officer.

"We closed the year with solid momentum and double-digit quarterly revenue growth in all of our geographies and all of our business segments," Mr. Bass said.

Record quarterly sales in the Manufacturing and the Architecture, Engineering and Construction segments came notably from the Inventor and Revit software, he said.

This global demand is pulling Autodesk out of a challenging previous fiscal year toward growth and better profitability, according to Mr. Bass.

"As we head into fiscal 2012, Autodesk is well-positioned to build on the success of the past year and drive towards our five-year targets," he said.

Autodesk makes design software for the manufacturing, architecture, building, construction and media and entertainment industries.  The company employs about 1,200 at its San Rafael headquarters.

The company's stock price at the end of trading Thursday was $40.43 a share, an increase of 84 cents a share, or 2.12 percent, from the closing price Wednesday.
