SAN RAFAEL -- Dominican University of California today announced that Dan Moshavi, Ph.D., has been named dean of the School of Business and Leadership and will replace interim dean Gary Williams in the fall.
"I am very pleased to welcome Dan Moshavi as the next academic leader of the School of Business and Leadership," said Luis Calingo, executive vice president and chief academic officer of the school. "As the past business dean, I am very confident that he will lead the business school not only to initial accreditation by the [Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business], but also to a higher level of competitiveness, distinctiveness, and excellence."
Dr. Moshavi will come to Dominican from Montana State University, where he is dean of the College of Business. He used to live in Tiburon.
"I'm honored to have been chosen to lead the School of Business and Leadership and look forward to working with a highly committed faculty to continue to enhance the student experience and the reputation of the school," he said.
Dr. Moshavi focuses on management and organizational behavior. As a member of Montana State's faculty since 2000, he has won more than a dozen teaching awards. He is a faculty member in an executive master's program in humanitarian logistics at the University of Lugano in Switzerland, and was previously a faculty member at San Jose State University and a research fellow with the Nemours Center for Medical Leadership.
"Dr. Moshavi was not only the best candidate, he is the ideal candidate. He was exactly who we were seeking," said Denise Lucy, founder and executive director of the Institute for Leadership Studies and Professor of Business Leadership at Dominican. "Dan Moshavi is an experienced business professor and scholar, and an accomplished dean. He is a creative person, extremely personable, has a great sense of humor. He connects with people and is a team builder. His open door to the community, facilitates exchanges among business leaders, students, faculty and alumni, while enhancing student learning and internships, and focusing faculty research to meet business needs."
Dr. Moshavi has consulted for a variety of large and small organizations, including Nike and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. He received his Ph.D. in management from the University of Oregon as well as master's and bachelor's degrees from George Washington University in Washington DC.
The School of Business and Leadership consists of 440 business students in a program that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including Master of Business Administration degrees in Global Management, Strategic Leadership and Sustainable Enterprise, known as the GreenMBA.
The school, which has the largest number of graduate students on campus, has 10 full-time and 33 part-time faculty members, the vast majority of which have post-graduate degrees, with 22 holding doctorate. It houses three interdisciplinary centers of excellence: The Institute for Leadership Studies, the Environmental Finance Center for EPA Region 9 and the Center for Sustainability.
The university's business school also is host of the North Bay U.S. Export Assistance Center of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
