PETALUMA -- High-end digital catalog and interactive marketing company Synapse Group will celebrate its 10th birthday with a move to new headquarters in Petaluma this week.

The San Rafael company has leased close to 4,000 square feet on Kentucky Street.

While the move represents an expansion in space and the company plans to add several new hires, the main motivation behind the move was convenience, said founder and creative director Zach Saltzberg.

“Most of our 15 core employees and five contract workers live in Sonoma County. The commute was never pleasant and took an hour each way for most of them. Now several will be able to walk or bike to work,” he said.

Synapse Group is well-known among big brand companies and Silicon Valley startups, but a non-disclosure policy prevented Mr. Saltzberg from naming them.

The company has a proprietary digital catalog and mobile platform and design and internet engineering expertise on staff.

“We can give a startup a very sophisticated and effective online sales operation, something it may not have the ability to do for itself,” said Mr. Saltzberg.

Synapse just launched a breakthrough website for a very large sporting group, he said.

“It determines what part of the country the site visitor is from and changes accordingly. Sadly I can’t direct you to it. Our clients prefer that our involvement remains a well-kept secret,” he said.

Synapse is able to say that Pax Water, a division of Pax Scientific in San Rafael is one of its 20 to 30 U.S. customers, according to its website, as is VivaTerra.com.

Privately held Synapse does not disclose revenues.

The company will complete the move this week and Mr. Saltzberg, although his own commute won’t be shorter.

“I now live at the farthest point south of any of our employees, in Fairfax,” he said.

The lease on the space at 205 Kentucky St. in Petaluma was arranged by Tony Sarno and Sara Wann of Keegan & Coppin.
