SANTA ROSA -- Sonoma County Job Link and SonomWORKS will complete a relocation and consolidation of services next week, according to the Human Services Department.
On Monday, June 6, the two employment assistance programs will consolidate four offices and about 120 employees into one 46,300-square-foot office at the Lakes Corporate Center at 2227 Capricorn Way. Another 40 partner staff from organizations like the state Employment Development Department and services organizations such as Goodwill Industries will be a part of the move.
The move will lower the costs per square foot, create more space for clients, increase safety and improve communications, the county said. It will also enable the county to handle a "growing number of clients needing services to find work."
Karen Fies, director of the Employment and Training division of the Human Services Department, told the Business Journal last November that Job Link's caseload increased 56 percent and the welfare-to-work SonomaWorks program increased by 17 percent over the past two years.
Job Link offers free assistance in job search, labor market research, and managing job applicants. SonomaWORKS -- the county's version of the statewide program CalWORKS -- provides public assistance benefits and assists clients in preparing for work through training and education and to help them find a job.
