Marin tourism bureau opens visitor center for west county area

WEST MARIN -- The Marin Convention and Visitors Bureau has opened a second visitor center in West Marin.

The new Marin Visitors Center West is located in Olema, which is south of Point Reyes Station, at the southeast intersection of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Highway 1.

It opened Memorial Day weekend and will be operate weekends and weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This location for our second visitor’s center is ideal,” said Bill Blackburn, chairman of the Marin Convention and Visitors Bureau’s board of directors.

“It has excellent visibility and ease of access for visitors,” he said. “It will provide an additional resource for the area and gives the MCVB the opportunity to promote Marin, and particularly the West Marin area, in a responsible manner to potential visitors.”

The new center will be operated in conjunction with the West Marin Visitors Bureau, which partners with the Marin Convention and Visitors in promoting the area.

The new center will primarily serve as a localized point-of-contact for individuals and groups that access the Point Reyes National Seashore areas, as well as those who come for other attractions.

The non-profit visitors bureau, which is funded by a voluntary assessment from a county business improvement district, has hired Alicia Carney as the West Marin center’s coordinator.

Ms. Carney is a recent graduate from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in recreation, parks and tourism administration focusing sustainable travel and tourism. She will oversee daily operations while developing new partnership opportunities in the region, according to the MCVB.
