MV Transportation names Carter Pate as CEO

FAIRFIELD -- MV Transportation Inc., the largest private provider of paratransit services and the largest privately owned transportation contracting firm in the U.S., today announced renowned company turnaround artist Carter Pate as chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors,  beginning Aug. 15.

Fairfield-based MV Transportation employs more than 13,000 transit professionals in 100 locations and operates more than 190 paratransit, fixed-route, shuttle and Medicaid contracts in 26 states, the District of Columbia and British Columbia.

Mr. Pate currently is the global and U.S. managing partner for the capital projects and infrastructure practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is also the co-leader of the company's global government practice.

Previous to these roles, Mr. Pate built PwC's U.S. government services practice, and in this capacity from 2004--08, he delivered from inception a compounded annual growth rate of 34 percent, which continues today. He joined PwC as a direct admit partner in 1996, specializing in public company restructuring.

Additionally, he has served as the international financial advisor to many Fortune 500 companies including Kevco Inc., Dimon International Inc., South Africa Breweries and Kmart.

Mr. Monson served as MV's chief executive from 1999--2008. "Mr. Pate has the vision, experience and leadership ability to take MV to the next level, to help our clients through difficult funding challenges and to ensure MV remains the best provider of passenger transportation in the world."

Prior to PwC, Mr. Pate was founding partner of Pate, Winters & Stone.

At PWS, Mr. Pate provided management and consulting services in the areas of restructuring management and corporate turnarounds.  His 2002 book, The Phoenix Effect: Nine Revitalizing Strategies No Company Can Do Without, has been translated into five languages, is used in business school courses and is a featured course at Southern Methodist University.

Mr. Pate earned a master's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas and an undergraduate accounting degree from Greensboro College. He is a certified public accountant in Texas, New York, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
