Star Staffing announced that Rob Pilling has joined their Professional Staffing and Placement Solutions Division, Star H-R, Inc., as Executive Recruiter. He will lead the direct hire and executive placement services in such areas as accounting, finance, information technology, engineering, and a wide range of administrative positions. Mr. Pilling comes to Star H-R with over 10 years of extensive headhunting and recruiting experience.

Chef Fabrice Marcon now heads up the kitchen at Left Bank Brasserie in Larkspur, one of the Marin County’s most popular dining spots. Co-owner and concept chef Roland Passot recruited Marcon to enhance the Larkspur restaurant’s offerings, while at the same time maintaining Left Bank’s French brasserie’s inspired menu. Chef Marcon, now 41 years old, is a native of France who apprenticed as a teenager in 2- and 3-star Michelin restaurants and early in his career worked in some of Europe’s most respected venues including La Chat Botte in Cannes, Beau Rivage Palace in Geneva, Restaurant Paul Bocuse in Lyon, and the Grand Hotel Stockholm where he met an American pastry chef who he married.

Wendy D. Whitson, attorney with Anderson, Zeigler, Disharoon, Gallagher & Gray, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County. Her areas of specialty are business, labor and employment and real estate law. The Volunteer Center of Sonoma County celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Laura Bertolli has been named interim board chair for the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce. She replaces Gary Phillips of San Rafael, who recently stepped down as chair in order to focus on his mayoral campaign for the City of San Rafael. Ms. Bertolli is the corporate president of Bertolli’s Auto Body and manages the family business located in San Rafael. She became active in the chamber in 1998, initially overseeing the chamber economic development committee. She was named to the board in 2000 and served on it through 2006, creating a new auto industry committee. When her term was complete, she served on several other committees before being reappointed to the board in 2009, when she became secretary of the board and has held that position since. Bertolli lives in Novato with her three children. Ms. Bertolli is also a member of Rotary Club of San Rafael, the Rock for Good board of directors and the Collision Repair Association of California.
Santa Rosa Youth Symphony Director of Education Ben Taylor has announced the results of the conductor search for the Santa Rosa Symphony’s beginning and intermediate student orchestras. Tristan Arnold has been chosen to conduct the Preparatory Orchestra and Bobby Rogers will conduct the Discovery Orchestra. Mr. Taylor made the announcement in a letter to the families of the Symphony’s youth ensembles members. “Both of these gentlemen are first-rate musicians and educators,” Mr. Taylor said. “They will bring a great balance of performance excellence and fun to these orchestras.”

Don Violin, the newly installed president of the Rotary Club of San Rafael, takes the international service club’s 2011-12 theme, “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity” to heart. He and his wife, Gloria, participated in a Rotary International immunization program in Delhi, India, where they gave polio vaccine to children under the age of five. Rotary International is largely responsible for the eradication of polio worldwide through financial contributions and Rotarian involvement. Violin has been a Marin resident since 1977. He retired from AT&T after thirty three years and has been active on many Rotary Club committees as well as serving on the Board of Directors for four years. Joining Mr. Violin in leadership roles are: Jack Hunt, President-Elect; Diane Henderson, Vice President; Jeffrey Ehlenbach, Secretary; and Judy Denning, Treasurer. The Board of Directors also includes: Ed Berberian, Holt Cole, Margaret Deedy, Carolyn Hoffman and Mike Kadel.

Julie Sinclair has been named managing editor at Marin Magazine, LLC. She began her publishing career 20 years ago in New York City at Woman’s Day magazine and over the years held a variety of positions in consumer publications, including managing editor at Woman’s Day Special Interest Publications, special projects editor at This Old House magazine, and managing editor at Bridal Guide. In 2005, Ms. Sinclair relocated to Santa Barbara from New York City to join Spa magazine as senior editor and in 2006 became editor-in-chief, leading the title through a transformational redesign both in print and online and overseeing the expansion of the brand into social media. In 2009, the magazine moved its offices to San Francisco, and Julie has been in love with the Bay Area ever since.

Also at Marin Magazine, Stephanie Ericson has been promoted from Account Manager to Associate Publisher at Marin Magazine, LLC. Ericson is responsible for sales development of all print and digital media. Born in Kansas City, Mo, she has lived in California over 40 years and in Mill Valley, Marin County, for the last 25. Her background includes being the Publisher of Computer Currents magazine for over five years, as well as the VP of Sales/Marketing for three dot com properties. After a brief hiatus, she returned to her publishing career as an account manager with Marin Magazine LLC in October 2008.
