Mr. Cohill will begin his new role beginning January 1,when Martin Brotman transitions to the role of senior vice president of education, research and philanthropy, according to organization President and Chief Executive Officer Pat Fry and the West Bay Region board of directors.

"Following in Dr. Brotman’s footsteps is not going to be easy; he has done a tremendous job in leading Sutter Health’s West Bay Region in its formative years," Mr. Cohill said in a statement. "I look forward to continuing our transformational work with the extraordinary, talented team in the region - world-class physicians and nurses, dedicated support staff, and skilled administrators. Together, we will improve how we deliver our services to ensure our high-quality health care is even more accessible and more affordable for our patients."

Mr. Cohill will oversee a busy region for Sutter. It includes California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, Novato Community Hospital, Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa, Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport, Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation along with numerous outpatient centers.

Major new hospital construction projects are either underway -- including a $284 million new hospital in Santa Rosa -- or in the planning and entitlement phases at California Pacific, where Sutter proposed a $1.9 billion new hospital. The region has more than 8,000 employees and 1,700 affiliated physicians and allied health care professionals.

Mr. Cohill has been part of the Sutter Health network for 30 years. In his current role as foundation chief executive, he has worked to establish relationships within the West Bay physician community and Sutter Health’s West Bay board of directors and helped lead the entitlement process for the new Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa campus.

Previously, in his role as a senior vice president at Sutter Health, Mr. Cohill oversaw and helped advance multiple key operations, including supply chain, Sutter Care at Home, facilities planning and development, Sutter Operating System and Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City.

He has also held senior administrative positions for physician organizations and hospitals in Sutter’s Sacramento Sierra, West Bay and Central Valley regions, establishing a reputation for collaboration, distilling complex issues and solid financial performance.

"Cohill’s extensive experience, coupled with the breadth and depth of his expertise in physician organizations, hospitals and integration, makes him the ideal individual to undertake leadership of the region as it continues its focus on care quality and affordability through improved coordination of services," Mr. Fry said.

Mr.  Cohill holds a bachelor’s degree in biology as well as a Saint Louis University master’s degree in hospital and health services administration.
