Taleo plans to double North Bay staff

PETALUMA --Taleo Corporation, a Dublin-based developer of online employee management systems, recently expanded its operations in the North Bay and has plans to expand further still.

The publicly traded company (NASDAQ: TLEO) currently has 12 employees at the Petaluma Marina Business Center, but it expects to double its staff within the immediate future, according to Jim Sillars, director of software engineering of Taleo's Petaluma branch.

Taleo moved into about 4,000 square feet of space at the Petaluma Marina about three weeks ago, with additional space for adding another 12 or 13 employees, Mr. Sillars said. Across the U.S. and Canada, the company has some 1,300 employees.

"The short and long term plans are to add talent in the North Bay," Mr. Sillars said.

Taleo's North Bay expansion is the result of the company acquiring in April of this year Cytiva Software, a Canada-based competitor that had a satellite office in Petaluma, Mr. Sillars said. In 2008, Taleo acquired another software maker, Vurv Technology, which also had a North Bay office. The expansion in Petaluma consolidates all employees into one location while allowing for the planned growth, which Mr. Sillars said will be occurring within the next month or so.

More than 5,000 companies use Taleo's cloud-based software for talent acquisition, performance and compensation management, according to Taleo.

"The intention is to expand the development side," said Mr. Sillars, who added that Taleo Learn was one product the company is looking to expand. The software, which was acquired from Learn.com, enables businesses to better develop and manage education and training programs, according to Taleo.

Mr. Sillars said he hoped to attract software engineers to the Petaluma location.

"I'm hoping to find out what sort of talent  I can lure to the North Bay," Mr. Sillar said, adding that developers who commute to San Francisco from Marin may be tempted by a closer commute.

Taleo had $267.2 million in revenue for the year ended June 30. Taleo estimates that almost half of the Fortune 100 businesses use its software.
