The Business Journal today announced the selection of a record 73 businesses and organizations as honorees in its seventh annual Best Places to Work in the North Bay.

The winners were selected by Business Journal editorial staff from almost 100 nominations bases on several criteria, including the results of an anonymous employee survey and a company application that provided information on issues such as diversity, family-friendly workplace, community involvement and employee benefits.

The winning companies ranged in size from 20 employees -- the minimum to participate -- to more than 1,000. There were nearly 6,500 responses to the survey this year. There are nine first-time recipients of the Best Places to Work Award this year, which represents 12 percent of the overall awards. Seven outstanding companies were seven-time winners in 2012: Burr Pilger Mayer, Exchange Bank,First Community Bank, Ghirado CPA, Kaiser Permanente, Redwood Credit Union and Valley Tire and Brake.

Congratulations and thanks to all who participated. A gala reception to honor 2012 Best Places to Work winners will be on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Santa Rosa at 4:30 p.m. Profiles of the recipients will appear in a special publication in the Sept. 24 issue of North Bay Business Journal.
