    Technology

Medtronic, which has cardiovascular-device operations in Santa Rosa, received the CE (Conformité Européenne) mark to be able to market the Evera portfolio of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) in the European Union. With increased longevity and the most advanced shock-reduction technology available, the new family of ICDs is the first to feature the PhysioCurve design, a contoured shape with thin, smooth edges that better fits inside the body, increasing patient comfort by reducing skin pressure by 30 percent. The Evera ICD is not approved in the U.S.

SenarioTek, a Santa Rosa-based designer and manufacturer of radio-frequency and microwave products, announced it has received ISO 9001:2008 certification from ABS Quality Evaluations. This certification covers SenarioTek’s processes for the design, engineering and production of RF/microwave products and integrated systems.

SpotOn, a San Rafael-based digital loyalty network for local merchants and consumers, announced a major milestone six months after officially launching its tablet-based incentive program in July. Since the launch, SpotOn said it has signed up more than 5,000 merchants — more than 1,000 in the past month alone — and is expanding its services to offer merchants a one-stop growth shop.

    Business development

Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce outlined its 2013 strategic objectives, part of an overarching mission “to support, promote and advocate for our members and create a vibrant, sustainable economy in our region.” Those objectives are: 1. support BEST in the creation of 2,500 new jobs in Sonoma County; 2. support revenue growth for our hospitality members and the whole community through the leadership of the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the use of Business Improvement Area and other funds to implement an aggressive sales and marketing program that increases occupancy in Santa Rosa hotels, encourages spending by visitors, bolsters the local economy and meets revenue targets; 3. nurture a pro-business environment in our community by implementing the Advocacy Council strategic plan; 4. strategically improve our workforce by implementing WHEEL and the Mike Hauser Algebra Academy; and 5. pursue funding to support our being the “voice of business” in workforce development.

    Nonprofits

Napa County Arts and Culture Advisory Committee of the Napa County Board of Supervisors requests proposals from Napa County arts and culture 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations for grants of $1,000 to $3,000. Completed applications must be by 5 p.m. April 1. A total of $232,000 is available for this round of grant funding, which includes fiscal years 2011–2012 and 2012–2013. Funding comes from the board’s Special Projects Fund, which is funded by a percentage of the county transient occupancy tax. A free grant application workshop is set for March 6 at 5 p.m. at Napa Valley Community Foundation, 3299 Claremont Way, Suite 2, in Napa.

    Awards

For the third year in a row, Napa Sanitation District produced an award-winning budget. The district awarded a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for producing a document that presents the numbers clearly while including a narrative that explains the budget process, outlines district operations and sets goals for the fiscal year.
