SAN RAFAEL -- Autodesk Inc., (NASDAQ: ADSK) today said it completed the acquisition of a Wyoming-based developer of software for design and analysis of composite materials.
The acquisition of Laramie, Wy.-based Firehole Technologies, a privately held company better known as Firehole Composites, will allow Autodesk to expand its suite of software tools into engineering with composites used for their lighter weight, strength, safety and energy efficiency, according to Autodesk, maker of 3-D design, engineering and entertainment-industry software.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
“As manufacturers move to more complex material such as light weight composites, new simulation technology is required to predict and optimize the performance of these materials,” said Buzz Kross, Autodesk senior vice president for design, lifecycle and simulation products. “This acquisition will enable Autodesk to deliver this technology to a broad spectrum of design and engineering industries. The Firehole team will add significant expertise in next-generation materials and nonlinear analysis, as well as industry-leading technologies that strongly complement our solutions for structural, thermal and plastics analysis.”
Autodesk plans to sell and support existing Firehole Composites titles such as Helius:MCT and Helius:CompositePro, while integrating the technology with Autodesk titles.
The acquisition isn't expected to affect financial guidance issued on Feb. 25, according to the company.
The closing price of Autodesk stock was $39.67 a share Tuesday, down nearly 36 cents, or nearly 1 percent, from Monday.
