Site to supply Bay Area, Pacific Northwest projects
VALLEJO — Minnesota-based Enclos, a specialty contractor for building facades, plans to open a 50,000-square-foot assembly plant on Mare Island commercial redevelopment in Vallejo.
The facility will employ more than 40 full-time workers, the company announced Wednesday. Enclos in early June signed a lease for Suite 300 in Building 126, built in 1985 as one of the last additions to the Navy shipyard before it was turned over for redevelopment to a joint venture of the city of Vallejo and Lennar Mare Island, LLC. The lease starts July 1.
Enclos chose Mare Island as a central location to minimize shipping distances for construction materials to projects in the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest, thus meeting the company’s carbon footprint and sustainability goals, according to the company.
“Our new Mare Island facility will be a hub for projects of all scopes and sizes generated through our network of offices across the country, which include locations in both Southern and Northern California, in addition to our Advanced Technology Studio in Los Angeles,” said spokesman Matt Elder.
Enclos (enclos.com) designs and installs custom facades for large-scale building projects worldwide. Local projects currently under construction include the new Stanford Hospital, UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay, San Francisco General Hospital and expansion of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The Enclos lease is the third major deal Lennar Mare Island signed in the past three months. In April, San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority committed to a new $22 million Mare Island ferry facility. The following month, maritime contractor Jerico Products leased Drydock No. 4.
“The city of Vallejo is pleased to welcome Enclos to Vallejo’s growing business community – we are encouraged by the investment and excited to have this national brand in Vallejo,” said Vallejo Mayor Osby Davis.
The 650-acre property now is home to 95 businesses occupying about 3.2 million square feet of commercial space, and Lennar Mare Island (lennarmareisland.com). Already, 50 historic buildings on the base have been readied for tenants. At any given time, Lennar Mare Island is marketing 500,000 to 1 million square feet of space for occupancy, one-third for offices and two-thirds industrial, according to a spokesman.
“LMI has been investing in Mare Island’s commercial infrastructure for more than a decade, and the ongoing investment allows us to take advantage of these opportunities,” said spokesman Jason Keadjian.
Steve Crocker of Colliers International represented Enclos in the early June lease deal, and Greg Smyth of CB Richard Ellis represented Lennar Mare Island.
