BevMo on Aug. 23 opened its Petaluma store, the 140th store location the Concord-based alcoholic beverage retailer. Leading the staff of the 9,931 square-foot store at the new East Washington Place regional mall will be Petaluma residents John Brenes, store manager, and Kate Price, assistant store manager. Novato-based Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc., a biotechnology company, received clinical trial application approval from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the U.K. to conduct a Phase 1/2 clinical trial of UX003, recombinant human b-glucuronidase, in MPS 7, a rare autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder characterized by a deficiency of the enzyme b-glucuronidase. MPS 7 is a severe multi-system disease resulting in cellular and organ dysfunction. There is no approved drug therapy. The company expects to start enrolling patients later this year at a single center in the U.K. If the Phase 1/2 trial is successful, the company anticipates it would proceed with a pivotal Phase 3 trial in 2014

The board of directors of Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE:MDT) approved a cash dividend of $0.28 per share of the company’s common stock. The quarterly dividend represents a 7.7 percent increase over the prior year. The dividend is payable on October 25, 2013, to shareholders of record at the close of business on October 4, 2013.
