SANTA ROSA — Kaiser Permanente is considering constructing a medical office building on a 10-acre parcel in Southwest Santa Rosa.

Details of the long-rumored project remain scant, with Kaiser officials in Santa Rosa saying the matter is still being reviewed by corporate headquarters in Oakland.

“Kaiser Permenente is currently performing due diligence as it explores the possibility of purchasing land in Santa Rosa on which to build a medical office building to serve its current and future members. Any further action would need the approval of the Kaiser Permanente Board of Directors,” spokesman David Ebright said in a statement.

The potential property being explored is near Northpoint Parkway and Corporate Center Parkway, near Stony Point Road, said Chuck Regalia, director of community development for Santa Rosa.

The area is home to a large share of residents who could become eligible for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Conceivably, Kaiser could stand to attract and retain some of those newly-insured residents.

Kaiser has not yet submitted any formal applications with the city, Mr. Regalia said.

“I can tell you they’re looking at a 10-acre site. It’s the kind of project that would fit very well,” Mr. Regalia said.

Numerous other health systems in the region are expanding outpatient facilities and medical office buildings, with Sutter Health set to break ground on an 80,000-square-foot medical office building adjacent to its $284 million new hospital currently under construction in northern Santa Rosa.

Why doesn’t Kaiser buy and retrofit the Warrick Campus? Problem solved.
