BPM extends footprint with St. Helena office

ST. HELENA -- Burr Pilger Mayer has opened a second North Bay office in St. Helena, giving the accounting and consulting firm a physical footprint in the Napa Valley and a new location to support its rapidly growing wine industry practice, the company announced.

The office, located at 1432 Main Street in St. Helena, is the sixth for San Francisco-based BPM in the Bay Area. The firm also operates an office in Santa Rosa, headed by the leader of BPM's Winery and Vineyard Industry Group, Carol O'Hara.

With the wine industry currently accounting for around 40 percent of the firm's business in the North Bay, Ms. O'Hara said that the growing activity in the Napa Valley had made establishing a St. Helena office a strong priority.

"BPM has had longstanding relationships in the Napa Valley, and Andersen before then," she said, noting relationships that began with the former Andersen & Company before it became the Santa Rosa office of BPM in 2009. "We have people there every day, right now. This will give them a place to meet with clients."

The office itself, at just under 1,500 square feet, received a number of improvements under its former tenant, Joel Gott Wines, Ms. O'Hara said. The downtown location and ample parking helped make it an attractive option.

"St. Helena really is the heart of the Wine Country, both in terms of its location and its history," she said.

North Bay employees of BPM will share the two offices as needed, and the firm itself is in the process of hiring a variety of staff as part of its broader growth, Ms. O'Hara said. Hiring specific to the St. Helena office will proceed organically. BPM currently has 43 employees in the North Bay, according to the North Bay Business Journal's 2013 list of Accounting firms.

“Our Napa Valley relationships run very deep, and we are absolutely thrilled to be opening a physical location in the heart of Wine Country,” said BPM founder and CEO, Curtis Burr, in a statement about the opening.  “The exponential growth of the BPM’s Winery & Vineyard Land Group is directly related to our relationship-driven approach to client and community service.  The St. Helena office increases our accessibility to clients, business partners and all the Napa Valley communities we serve.”
