California Parenting Institute, Rohnert Park nonprofit merge

SANTA ROSA, ROHNERT PARK -- The nonprofit Sonoma County Adult and Youth Development has merged with the nonprofit California Parenting institute, and will now operate as the Rohnert Park Family Resource Center, according to an announcement from the California Parenting Institute.

The move will effectively make the former Sonoma County Adult and Youth Development a Rohnert Park branch for Santa Rosa-based California Parenting Institute, offering counseling services for children and families on a fee basis and through referrals from Child Protective Services and law enforcement. The two organizations have been in merger talks since May, according to the announcement.

James Gattis, previously executive director of the Rohnert Park organization, will continue as program manager for the newly renamed location.  Robin Bowen will continue as executive director of the California Parenting Institute.

The California Parenting Institute is in the process of developing a business plan for the Rohnert Park Family Resource Center, which will further define the services offered at the location.

The California Parenting Institute was founded in 1978, and focuses on parent and child education and mental health counseling. The organization served more than 3,000 families in 2012, and in September celebrated the opening of a 4,600-square-foot Parent Education Center at 3650 Standish Avenue in Santa Rosa.
