    Ramy Louis

    Ramy Louis

    FPC Investment Advisory hired Ramy Louis as a marketing and communications manager in Petaluma. Originally from San Jose, Mr. Louis moved to Petaluma in December after selling his half of a specialty construction company based in Santa Clara. After becoming chief executive officer in 2007, he took the company from a two-person operation to a 30-plus person business grossing over $2 million annually. Previously, he served in the Navy, completing two overseas tours.

    Biotech

    Novato-based Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical (Nasdaq: RARE) appointed Clay Siegall, PhD, and Matthew Fust to the company’s board of directors. Dr. Siegall is president, CEO, chairman of the board and co-founder of Seattle Genetics, and Mr. Fust is formerly executive vice president chief financial officer of Onyx Pharmaceuticals. Board member Ben Auspitz resigned from his position.

    Construction

    Santa Rosa-based Western Builders hired Sean MacRae as project manager and head of design. Formally with Waters MacRae Architects, Mr. MacRae brings 25 years of experience in project design and management in the construction industry including winery, hospitality, commercial, residential and tenant-improvement work.

    Northern California Engineering Contractors Association on Feb. 1 swore in Tom Donohoe of Ghilotti Bros. as 2014 board president. The group’s Hermsmeyer Hall of Fame Award was given to Dick Dowd and posthumously to C.R. “Dick” Fedrick.

    Education

    San Rafael Chamber of Commerce selected Lynn Sondag for one of the 2013–2014 Excellence in Education Awards. She is an assistant professor at Dominican University of California and chair of the Department of Art, Art History and Design with 14 years’ experience in the education community. Her contributions are curriculum improvement, instructional excellence, personal involvement and leadership, overall program improvement and exemplary support to the classroom. She holds a BFA degree from Savannah College of Art and Design and an MFA from California College of the Arts. She has taught at Dominican since 2002, joining the full-time faculty in 2007 as department chair.

    Zarin Mehta

    Zarin Mehta

    Zarin Mehta, president and executive director of the New York Philharmonic until 2012, has been brought in to oversee artistic programming for the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. He plans musical events for Joan and Sanford I. Weill Hall, the center’s 1,400-seat concert hall, including appearances by the San Francisco and Santa Rosa symphonies plus other international orchestras and musical soloists. He has been the president and CEO of Chicago’s Ravinia Festival, and was managing director of the Montreal Symphony. He is the brother of conductor Zubin Mehta.

    Sausalito-based Glassdoor hired Adam Spiegel as chief financial officer. He has more than 20 years’ experience helping companies prepare for and manage through periods of rapid growth. Previously, Mr. Spiegel was CFO of San Francisco-based RPX Corp., a provider of subscription-based corporate patent risk solutions. He built RPX’s finance organization and led the company through a hypergrowth phase, including a $185 million initial public offering. Mr. Spiegel also previously served as CFO for two early-stage life science companies. Earlier, he was an investment banker advising technology, financial services and industrial companies on a wide range of complex transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and public equity and debt financing. He holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from UCLA.

    Vince Ginochio

    Vince Ginocchio of Heffernan Insurance Brokers in Petaluma received the Safeco Insurance Award of Excellence for the third year in a row. It honors agents who have developed a solid underwriting relationship with Safeco and whose agencies have qualified for the Safeco Insurance Premier Partner Awards, the company’s top recognition program.

    Cheryl Heller joined employee benefits firm Woodruff-Sawyer & Co.’s Novato office as senior account manager. She plans to focus on the winery, real estate, educational and solar energy sectors. Previously, she was at Vantreo Insurance Brokerage in Santa Rosa for six years.

    Alex Myers joined Napa-based business law firm Myers & Associates as a senior attorney. Previously, he served in an “of counsel” role. His primary practice areas are real estate transactions and wine business transactions.

    Susan Ghest-Kehoe

    Susan Ghest-Kehoe

    San Rafael-based Blue Ventures Wine Marketing hired Susan Ghest-Kehoe as sales and marketing coordinator. She has extensive experience managing website and social media content, marketing material production, event planning and logistics, and database administration. She earned a BS in fine and applied art with a focus on illustration and graphic design from the University of Oregon.

    Manufacturing

    Santa Rosa-based electric and gasoline automobile maker Zap on Jan. 23 appointed Chi Kwong Fung chief financial officer. He previously was finance director and interim chief financial officer. He has served as senior finance manager for SF Express (Group) Co. Ltd. He was financial controller for Carlo Castello Management & Accounting Services Ltd. For 13 years, Mr. Fung was finance manager for T.G. Battery Co. (Hong Kong), Ltd.

    Yvonne Baginski, owner of Born To Age Senior Care Directories and Information Kiosks, is the 2014 president of the Sonoma County Section on Aging, a networking organization of businesses, professionals and organizations working with seniors. Elected to the board were Sheila Alhmquist of Home Instead as vice president, Kelly Swanson of the Alzheimer’s Association as treasurer and Lisa Hertel of Gentiva as secretary.

    Steve Tamburell

    St. Helena-based Flora Springs Winery & Vineyard named Steve Tamburelli as chief operating officer. Reporting to president and proprietor John Komes, Mr. Tamburelli will oversee winemaking, production, marketing and sales. A Napa Valley native who has spent his entire career in the wine industry, he most recently served 11 years as general manager for Chappellet Vineyard & Winery. Previously, he spent two years as chief operating officer at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars.
