Mr. Wells will stay on at the chamber for several weeks in order to help the staff and board of directors with the leadership transition. He will join the Marin Builders Association as CEO, effective May 15.

"I’ve been honored to serve the San Rafael Chamber for the past four years," he said in a statement. "I'm so fortunate to have worked with such a dynamic group of people who are so dedicated to keeping San Rafael a vibrant community. I look forward to helping the staff and the board with a smooth transition."

Chamber board chair-elect Mark Carrington said the group's leadership are happy for him in this new opportunity.

"At the same time, we have a great team in place and we’re excited to begin a new chapter for the chamber," he said.

Mr. Wells served as president and CEO since January 2010.

He will move to an organization started in 1958, when Marin members of North Coast Builders Exchange voted to form a separate group.

Klif Knowles, who was with the association for 45 years and held various posts including general manager since 2005, retired at the end of January.
