UKIAH -- Ukiah Valley Medical Center said it will open a new Cancer Treatment and Infusion Center on the second floor of its Rural Health Center at 260 Hospital Drive.
The new cancer center, which just about doubles the current space to 1,700 square feet, will open in July, according to the 68-bed hospital, which is owned by Adventist Health. It’s being designed by San Francisco-based Jennings, Ackerly Architecture & Design and the general contractor is Santa Rosa-based Wright Contracting, officials said.
Ukiah Valley CEO Gwen Matthews said the opening of the cancer center will help integrate the best possible care for residents in Mendocino County, while it simultaneously renovates the existing hospital.
“As we launch the construction of our emergency room, trauma center, and intensive care unit, we want to ensure that care is provided in spaces that promote healing and well-being. We knew we must do that for our cancer patients as well and found the ideal setting on the second floor of our Rural Health Clinic,” she said in a statement.
Last fall, the hospital broke ground on a $41 million upgrade, which will expand its emergency room from 12 current beds to 19 private beds, including two trauma bays, a six-bed ICU and a rooftop helipad that will help the facility’s efforts to advance its trauma designation from level 4 to level 3. In 2013, Roseville-based Adventist Health announced it would double the scale and cost of the upgrade, which was initially pegged at $21 million, as a result of seeking the trauma designation.
“I know this new space is going to be a real benefit to our community and patients,” Angle Salter, an oncology nurse navigator, said in release. “Having a larger space will give staff and patients freedom to move and it will allow us to increase the programming and services we have to offer.”
Ukiah Valley Medical Center is part of Adventist Health’s Northern California Network, which includes hospitals in St. Helena, Clearlake, Willits and Vallejo.
