Impact Sonoma to address broad range projects

The Business Journal's annual Impact Sonoma conference will focus on the county's major projects from a new state-of-the-art hospital to transportation.

"When you look under the hood of the Sonoma County economy, there are a number of interesting and impactful projects under way that this conference will focus on," said Business Journal Publisher Brad Bollinger.

The conference will be from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel & Spa in Santa Rosa and is underwritten by Summit State Bank.

In addition to the release of the results of the Journal's second annual business climate survey, the conference will include the following:

--Mike Purvis, chief administrative officer of the new $284 million Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital, who will speak about the project as it counts down to the Oct. 25 opening.

"I am not certain yet that the community really knows what it is getting with this new hospital," said Mr. Bollinger. "First, there is the investment being made in the community today. But the longer term impact will be on the health of the community that will be counted in lives saved and lives improved."

--The transition of Agilent Technologies to locally headquartered Keysight Technolgies with 1,200 employees locally and 9,500 around the world and some $3 billion in revenue.

"When the transition is complete this fall, Santa Rosa overnight becomes the headquarters of a global enterprise," Mr. Bollinger said. "When the press releases go out for earnings or product announcements, they will be datelined Santa Rosa, California. That will have impact."

--Efforts by Labcon, North America President Jim Happ to bring a critically needed medical device sterilization company to Petaluma.

"Medical device companies, a growing and important sector of our economy, could benefit greatly from the effort to bring the Synergy Health facility here," Mr. Bollinger said.

--How American Ag Credit decided to locate its 120,000-square-foot headquarters near the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa and create a regional center for agriculture and ag organizations.

--The latest on Sonoma Clean Power from SCP CEO Geof Syphers.

--And a transportation update panel with Farhard Mansourian, general manager of SMART, Suzanne Smith, executive director of the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, and Jon Stout, general manager of the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport where runways are being expanded to accommodate more carriers.
