Best Places to Work 2014: Scott Technology Group, Inc.

ROHNERT PARK -- This company is genuinely focused on providing the simplest, most straightforward process for its clients to receive the copier repair, sales, electronic document management and managed print services they need.

"Because we're independently owned, we're not distracted by corporate profitability mandates or the need to please stockholders, and can build our infrastructure and market approach around client satisfaction -- while rewarding employees for excellence," said CEO David Scott.

"We all strive to do what's right for our customers and value their perspectives," an employee said. "Our company has a strong ethical focus with managers whoalways put employees first."

When an employee is praised by a client for doing an outstanding job, he or she is recognized internally with an award and a certificate for a paid half day off, often saved to be used for an extended family weekend.

"I'm very happy with our work environment," another worker said. "Last year they gave us an extra week of paid leave to do volunteer work for an organization of our choice."

To build rapport, there are employee parties for each major holiday, and family members are always invited, plus annual soup and Christmas dessert competitions. A Ping-Pong tournament is also being planned.

What could be done to improve the workplace? "Nothing, except perhaps an espresso machine," an employee suggested.
