Best Places to Work 2014: Edgewood Partners Insurance Center (EPIC)

PETALUMA -- There are three key ways that Edgewood Partners Insurance Company (EPIC) promotes and reinforces "what we call 'EPICness,' the quality or state of being EPIC," said co-founder Dan Francis. The first key is culture and community, in which the company promotes a "people-first culture. We are all connected through shared beliefs, values and goals," he said.

Employees appreciate the people-focused atmosphere in the workplace, and one employee said: "The entire office works as a team, regardless of department and position. It's a very collaborative environment."

The second key is communication and transparency in which everyone "consistently, honestly and openly shares information, whether it's good or bad," Mr. Francis said. Employees appreciate the interactions and candidness and one employee commented that a great thing about the job is "the transparency," and added that EPIC also stands for its "consideration of employees' health, welfare and career development and for the acknowledgment of employees' contributions."

The third and final key is fun and celebration. "EPICness includes having fun, celebrating and never taking ourselves too seriously," Mr. Francis added. "There should be both pleasure and satisfaction found in working hard and delivering our best. We should enjoy each other as associates, friends and EPIC family members. Personal milestones and achievement should also be recognized and celebrated. Life is too short to do otherwise."

Employees value a sense of joy is in the workplace. One employee said the company has "a great attitude and a winning spirit." Another employee commented that the camaraderie in the workplace is what sets EPIC apart and that "I feel truly blessed to be a part of such an amazing company."
