Novato office supplies firm to offer green products catalog

NOVATO – OfficeDesk will launch an all-green catalog in July, the first comprehensive compilation of green office supplies available in the region, said manager Frank Zedek.

The company has been recycling ink and toner cartridges for more than 13 years under the name Vanzebo Laser. In 2006, Vanzebo added OfficeDesk to deliver office supplies to its 600 business customers in the greater Bay Area.

The new catalog will be supplementary to the regular OfficeDesk catalog.

“Including only green supplies in one easy-to-use book will save eco-conscious consumers time and trouble. We’re anticipating a large number of requests for the new catalog,” said Mr. Zedek.

It’ll contain a listing of green products in various gradations of green, including paper, forms, pens and pencils, cleaning supplies and office furniture. Mr. Zedek pointed out that today’s printers and copiers, unlike older models, can handle recycled paper with ease.

Most office supplies and furniture are candidates for green certification under the U.S. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design green-building standards.

When OfficeDesk’s wholesaler announced it would offer green products in all categories, OfficeDesk jumped at the opportunity to put them in one catalog.

“We may be the first, but we won’t be the only retailer to come out with a similar offering. Everyone will be doing it soon, I’m sure,” said Mr. Zedek.

In February of this year, OfficeDesk became a Bay Area Green Certified Business by reducing waste, trimming energy costs and recycling office supplies as much as possible. The company currently recycles more than 14 tons of plastic a year and is looking to do more.

“The time is right to go green in Marin County and in California. Both state and county agencies are very supportive of our efforts,” he said.

OfficeDesk was recently honored by the Marin County Board of Supervisors for its commitment to efficiency and recycling.
