Agilent reports improved revenues
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
The wireless unit made strides in particular with WiMax and LTE (Long Term Evolution), or 3.9G, jumping out in front with customers planning to use the new technologies.
"We're living up to our goal of being first with next generation solutions," said Ron Nersesian, president of the Wireless Business Unit and Santa Rosa site manager. The unit is partnering with large communications companies to bring the LTE technology, now only in the development stages, to the market, he said.
The most advanced high speed wireless technology now in use overseas, and just being rolled, is G3.
Electronic measurement orders were up for the second quarter to $928 million from $909 million in the same quarter of 2007 and revenues grew to $900 million compared with $857 million one year ago.
According to Mr. Nersesian, the Santa Rosa the unit exceeded expectations and each of its divisions put in a solid performance.
"There were some economic headwinds, but due to our business geographies -- two-thirds of our market is overseas -- we were able to weather the storm," said Mr. Nersesian.
The Wireless Business Unit is also on track to complete its $50 million Santa Rosa campus upgrade by April 2009, and to finish its one-megawatt solar installation by August or September of this year.
Agilent employs about 1,450 in Santa Rosa. The wireless business unit is Agilent's largest business unit.
