North Bay job growth slows in 2014 as jobless rates fall to new lows

The number of jobs in the six North Bay counties grew by 2.1 percent to 2.4 percent in 2014, down from 3 percent to 4 percent growth in the previous two years, as unemployment rates for the region ended the year at low points largely not seen since before the economic recession seven years ago, based on Business Journal analysis of state employment figures for December released Friday. And the data and estimates from the state Economic Development Department suggest the 9,550–13,500 additional positions in North Bay last year together with job gains in the previous three years recouped the more than 50,000 positions tallied as lost by the depth of the downturn in 2010.
