The North Bay Children’s Center of Novato will provide Santa Rosa City Schools full-day, on-site subsidized preschool programs for two campuses.

The school district signed the $400,000 contract with the nonprofit earlier this summer. The Children’s Center offers scholarships based on income, family size, work schedule and participation in school or professional training.

The Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership in Marin is accepting nominations for the corporate community service award and Heart of Marin Award through Nov. 9.

Napa Valley Community Housing launched a “Homes for the Holidays” fundraiser sponsored by Bank of America. The promotion asks businesses to donate instead of sending holiday cards to raise money for homes for the working poor.


VMI Architecture Inc. became a certified green business by the Bay Area Green Business Program and the company recently joined the Green Chamber of Commerce.


Nissan North America will debut the LEAF zero-emission, all electric care in America beginning Nov. 13, arriving in Santa Rosa Dec. 1.

Health Care

Alliance Medical Center of Healdsburg and Windsor was one of 13 California organizations to win a piece of a $6.2-million grant from UnitedHealth Group/PacifiCare. The low-income health care provider received $384,573, which will be used to deploy an e-prescribing program.

Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa will be recognized by its quality improvement membership network, VHA, during the group’s 2009 summit and “Member Spotlight Award Ceremony and Recognition event” on Nov. 12.

Sutter will accept awards and certificates for achievement in team collaboration, clinical performance, innovation and patient safety along with other west coast members of VHA. Sutter nurse Misi Nagle will receive a certificate as “nurse champion” and Dr. Kenneth Lamb will receive a “physician champion” award.

VHA of the west coast includes about 100 member hospitals and will distribute about 150 awards and certificates during the event.  Members submit for the awards and are chosen by VHA staff.

Also, the Sutter hospital along with St. Joseph Health System Sonoma County received H1N1 vaccines and have inoculated employees and physicians.


Equator Estate Coffees and Teas of San Rafael was named America’s 2010 “Roaster of the Year” by Roast Magazine.

Petaluma-based One Planet Global Handcrafted Fair trade store was recognized as a woman-owned business of the year by the Women’s Initiative for Self Employment.

Tourism & Hospitality

Food and Wine Trails exclusive vacations has added Boulevard restaurant co-owner Nancy Oaks and her husband “Sausage King” Bruce Aidells, as well as Napa vintner Pat Kuleto to latest cruise packages to Sydney and New Zealand.


Beginning Oct. 14, the Carneros Wine Alliance commenced a one-month, online auction at www.auction.carneros.com. The “Carneros Harvest OnLine Auction” coincides with the group’s one-day harvest passport event on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the appellation. The harvest events benefit the Carneros Land Stewardship Foundation.

Rodney Strong Vineyards agriculture and winery operations are carbon neutral and the company is a member of The Climate Registry. Additionally, Rodney Strong is enrolled in PG&E’s “ClimateSmart” program and NativeEnergy’s carbon offset purchase program, benefitting three new green energy creation projects.

The company also recently became an exclusive wine partner of the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts.
