SANTA ROSA – A reseller of medical instruments is making Santa Rosa its new home.

NeoMicro Inc. of Berkeley has leased 10,000 square feet of warehouse and office space on Maxwell Court and is in the process of moving in. The move represents an expansion from a 4,000-square-foot warehouse in San Pablo.

Founder and company principal John Weston declined to comment on the move.

"We're a business-to-business company," he said, noting it is not set up to handle walk-in and unsolicited telephone traffic.

NeoMicro, which said on its Web site that it is one of the largest dealers of used laboratory and medical equipment in the greater Bay Area, buys new, used and reconditioned hospital equipment and resells it on eBay. The site indicates that NeoMicro will soon have its own e-commerce function.

Products include Hewlett Packard and Agilent gas and liquid chromatography instruments, microscopes and medical laboratory and diagnostic equipment. The company also offers a consignment service for its customers, which are laboratories in North America and abroad.

The lease was arranged by Rhonda Deringer of Keegan & Coppin representing NeoMicro and Gil Saydah of Keegan & Coppin representing the landlord.

"It's been a complicated move,"  said Ms. Deringer. "The equipment is very complex and delicate and has to be packed and shipped with great care.

"But we feel NeoMicro is an excellent fit for the North Bay, and we understand that the move will involve a number of local hires."

She estimated that the company currently employs less than a half dozen but has room for staff expansion.

NeoMicro may find customers among nearly 30 biotech, biomed and research institutions in the North Bay.

Medical device makers include Medtronic CardioVascular, TriVascular, Medlogic, Direct Flow, Sonoma Orthopedics and Osseon. There are several large medical instrumentation and supply manufacturers like Agilent, Thermo Fisher, SMC Stoesser and Labcon N.A. And large pharmaceutical developers include BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Dey Labs, Dow Pharmaceutical and Santen.
