NORTH BAY – Movie Gallery Inc. is closing all its U.S. video and game rental stores, which includes six Hollywood Video and Game Crazy locations in the North Bay.

Five of the North Bay locations have been in the process of closing after the video-rental business decided to close half its 2,415 U.S. stores as part of its February bankruptcy filing.

The company recently decided to close all the stores, according to the Wall Street Journal. Movie Gallery was not available for comment. Affected North Bay stores are:

--705 Lincoln Ave., Napa

--4287 Sonoma Blvd., Vallejo

--1845 N. Texas St., Fairfield

--832 Southampton Road, Benicia

--789 E. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville

--711 Stony Point Road, Ste. 1, Santa Rosa

Hollywood Video joins nationwide chain Blockbuster Video in closing stores amid competition from rental-by-mail and kiosk-based services as well as streaming Internet video companies. That trend also affected local chain Bradley Video.
