Jan Becker

Jan Becker is the senior vice president of human resources for Autodesk, which is the fourth-largest employer in Marin County with 928 full-time employees. In her current role, Ms. Becker is responsible for worldwide human resources, corporate real estate facilities and community relations at the software development company. Previously she was the senior director of human resources for the company’s design solutions division and manager of the “HR Future” team. She joined Autodesk in 1992. She’s held management positions with Sun Microsystems, Activision, Digital Equipment Corp. and Hewlett-Packard. She holds a B.S. in business administration from San Jose State University.

Sharon Black

Sharon Black is the district president for Robert Half International and oversees operations throughout Northern California and Hawaii for the worldwide staffing and consulting firm, which has more than 400 locations. In 2009, the company, which has three North Bay branches, reported revenues of $3 billion. Ms. Black joined Robert Half International in 1994 and has more than 25 years of experience in the staffing industry. Ms. Black, who lives in San Mateo, was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Business in 2009.

Catherine Candland

Catherine Candland just recently took over the helm as chief executive officer at Nelson Family of Companies, which is the North Bay’s largest staffing and HR firm with about 30 locations throughout the Bay Area and seven in the North Bay.

She succeeds founder Gary Nelson, who had been the CEO for 40 years. Previously, she was the CEO of Advantage Human Resourcing Inc., which she founded in 1985 in Connecticut and grew to a $230 million global human capital organization during her 24 years with the company. With Advantage, Ms. Candland developed the company’s differentiated services offerings, including recruitment process outsourcing, contingent work force management and business process outsourcing, direct hire searches and project recruitment.  She has served on the New York Federal Reserve Board of Small Businesses as well as the Connecticut Governor’s Council on Economic Competitiveness and Technology.

Rudy Collins

Rudy Collins oversees human resources operations for both Kaiser Permanente Medical Center Santa Rosa as well as Kaiser San Rafael Medical Center, which comprises a total of approximately 3,730 full-time employees – 2,400 in Santa Rosa and 1,330 in San Rafael. The San Rafael and Santa Rosa campuses are the largest private employers in each county, and Mr. Collins directly runs a staff of 22 people.

His primary duties for Kaiser include overseeing areas of employee and labor relations, recruitment, HR compliance, learning and development as well as leadership development. He also serves as a consultant to leadership on all HR issues and is responsible for ensuring effective delivery of all HR services and taking action in promoting an effective partnership between labor and management.

Most recently, Mr. Collins has been leading the transition team in coordinating the hiring and training of new and existing staff as they prepare to move into Kaiser Santa Rosa’s new hospital tower. Scheduled to open in October, it will house a new interventional radiology department as well as a new emergency department. He’s been with Kaiser for six years and previously held HR management positions with eBay, Charles Schwab and Levis Strauss. He lives in Corte Madera and received a B.A. in psychology and philosophy from Boston University and an MBA from Golden Gate University.

Elizabeth Davis

Elizabeth Davis is the owner and president of Alkar Human Resources, which is the largest staffing company in Napa. She founded the firm in 1985 after a career in banking and finance.

Kristina Derkos

Kristina Derkos is the senior vice president of employee relations at Redwood Credit Union and recently was the past president of PASCO, the Professional Association of Sonoma County, an organization of local HR professionals, where she served on the board for four consecutive years. She has more than 15 years experience in HR in both private and public sectors, including union and non-union environments. She earned an associate of arts degree from Santa Rosa Junior College and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of San Francisco. She also holds a certificate in human resources management from Sonoma State University and is certified as a senior professional in human resources with Society for Human Resource Management. Ms. Derkos was also a Leadership Santa Rosa graduate and serves on numerous other boards, including the SRJC Business Office of Technology Board and the Northern California Human Resources Board. In July, she will assume a new role with PASCO as a director at large.

Her colleagues at Redwood Credit union include Lee Alderman, assistant vice president of educational development. He is also the chair for the North Bay chapter of Northern California Human Resources Association. And Karen Bourdie is the employee relations manager. She will assume the role of president for PASCO in July.

Shireen Donaldson

Shireen Donaldson is the vice president of human resources for Agilent’s Electronic Measurement Group, a position she was promoted to in 2009. Ms. Donaldson joined Hewlett-Packard in 1997 as a human resources consultant and in 1999 was named HR manager for Agilent’s Advanced Networks Division, based in Australia, after HP and Agilent became separate companies. She moved to Sonoma County in 2003 to be the HR manager for the Signal Analysis Division in Santa Rosa, and in 2005 was named the company’s Wireless Business Unit HR manager, where she worked until the recent promotion. Before working for the technology company, she worked as a senior HR consultant for Victoria Legal Aid and served as a senior consultant in the organizational development unit of the Victorian WorkCover Authority, both in Australia. Ms. Donaldson received her B.S. in applied science from the Phillip Institute of Technology and an MBA from Monash University.

Mark Fowler

Mark Fowler is the director of human resources at St. Helena Hospital, which is Napa County’s third-largest employer with 718 full-time workers. The hospital has five locations throughout the county. He’s held his current position since 2003. He received a master’s degree in religion from Andrews University.

Theresa Gianfortune

Theresa Gianfortune is chief of human resources at Marin General Hospital, the largest acute-care and trauma center in the county that employs nearly 1,100 people full-time. She has more than 20 years experience in HR and most recently served as vice president of human resources for Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller’s Children’s Hospital in Southern California. Prior to that, she was vice president of human resources at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Beyond her health care experience, Ms. Gianfortune received the National Human Resources Association of Southern California Compassionate Excellence Award in 2006. She earned her bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Daniel Webster College in New Hampshire.

Jane Hynes

Jane Hynes is the president, CEO and co-founder of W.A. Hynes & Company, which she started with her husband in 1976. Initially a specialty staffing firm in IT and consulting –which she said was started when the staffing industry “was in its infancy” – the company now has three North Bay locations and offers services in accounting, bookkeeping, clerical, construction, engineering, health care, hospitality, insurance, legal, light industrial, marketing and wine making. Her career began in nursing, and her husband started in chemistry.

Dawn McConnon

Kim McEachron

Kim McEachron is the vice president of human resources for Medtronic CardioVascular, the fourth-largest private employer in Sonoma County with with approximately 800 full-time employees. Her responsibilities include leadership and implementation of culture and organization development, mergers and acquisitions, diversity and inclusion strategy, talent management systems, leadership development and executive coaching. She’s been in her position since 2000. Previously she was vice president of HR for Medtronic’s Neuro division, which she began in 1989. Ms. McEachron obtained a master’s in industrial relations from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a bachelor’s in sociology and anthropology from Carleton College.

Debra Miller

Debra Miller, a 2010 North Bay Business Journal Women in Business recipient, has been vice president of human resources for St. Joseph Health System-Sonoma County since 2007. The health care company is the largest nonprofit employer in the county, with roughly 2,400 employees that work in a wide range of health care-related fields – including hospice, mobile clinic operations, urgent care centers and dental clinics, among others – at locations including Memorial Hospital, the county’s main trauma center, and Petaluma Valley Hospital.

The Southern California native moved to the North Bay in 1994, when she came to work for the now-dissolved HMO Health Plan of the Redwoods. Ms. Miller sits on the board of directors for the Sonoma-Mendocino county chapter of the American Red Cross, is a Retirement Plan Committee member for St. Joseph Health System and is a former board member of the Community Child Care Council. She obtained her undergraduate degree from California State University-Northridge and a master’s in human resources and organizational management from the University of San Francisco.

Steve Morales

Steve Morales is the administrative director for human resources at Sutter Medical Center Santa Rosa and has worked with Sacramento-based Sutter Health for the past 17 years. Initially he was hired as a respiratory therapist at Sutter Lakeside Hospital in 1993, but he began his career in HR in 2001 at the same hospital.  In 2004 he was promoted to human resources director for both Sutter Lakeside and Sutter Santa Rosa. He’s been in his current position since 2006. A past recipient of the North Bay Business Journal’s Forty under 40 award, Mr. Morales was nominated for the Sutter Health Human Resources Leader of the Year Award in 2007. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management from Pacific Union College.

David Ohman

David Ohman is the branch manager for Manpower’s North Bay branch, where he is responsible for territory that includes all of Sonoma and Mendocino counties and parts of Napa and Lake counties. Originally from Southern California, Mr. Ohman worked in the international transport industry for more than 20 years then in 2007 joined the global staffing company, which has more than 4,500 locations and has served the North Bay since 1975. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics from UCLA.

He is also a recent graduate of Leadership Santa Rosa and a member of the LSR Alumni Association; is a board of director of PASCO, where he serves as the vice president of education; is an appointee on the Sonoma County Workforce Investment Board, where he serves on the Job Link Steering Committee; and serves on several advisory panels, including the Sonoma County Office of Education ROP Business Advisory Committee and the Santa Rosa Junior College Business Advisory Committee, among others.

Gosha Parra

Gosha Parra is an HR generalist for the Cultured Stone Division of Owens Corning Masonry, which with nearly 400 full-time employees is the fifth-largest employer in Napa County. She has a B.S. in human resources and organizational behavior from Sonoma State University and has been in her current position since 1998. Prior to that, she worked with 86 Pioneering Associates/Steven Sager – Attorney at Law, and her background in human resources includes workers’ compensation, benefits, employee relations, compensation management and staffing.

Lisa Rogelstad

Lisa Rogelstad is chief executive officer and owner of Star Staffing, which was founded in 1998. Ms. Rogelstad, along with Carla Shevchuck, purchased the company in 2003 and expanded it to staff more than 2,000 employees to various industries annually. Ms. Rogelstad has more than nine years in the staffing industry. She has worked in human resources, finance and strategic leadership and has helped the company grow more than 53 percent over the course of the past year, during which its staff increased by 20 percent.

Just recently, the company opened another Petaluma branch that will focus on specialty services in the fields of accounting, financial services, technical engineering and executive level jobs. The company has offices in Healdsburg, Napa, Sonoma, Petaluma, Fairfield and Ukiah.

Pamela Romoli

Pamela Romoli is vice president and chief of human resources at Fireman’s Fund Insurance, which is the third-largest private-sector employer in Marin County with more than 900 employees. She’s held her current position since 2007 and is responsible for company human resource strategies aimed at creating a high-performance culture, attracting and retaining talent and improving developmental tools for employees. Ms. Romoli joined Fireman’s Fund in 1991 as an HR manager supporting the finance operation and has since served in several management positions, including corporate HR director of organizational development and executive staffing. Most recently, she was assistant vice president of HR business consulting for the company.

Before joining Fireman’s Fund, she was an HR executive at Credit Resolution Trust, a subsidiary of Xerox. She has a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master’s in public administration from California State University, San Diego. Since 2009, she has served as a board member for Buckelew Programs, which provides services to mentally ill patients in Marin, Sonoma and Napa counties.

Ron Scott

Ron Scott is currently the vice president of human resources for Queen of the Valley Medical Center and has a total of 36 years experience in the human resources field, including positions in the defense and health care industries. Mr. Scott currently oversees human resources, hospital labor relations, workers’ compensation and employee assistance programs. Other human resource matters at the hospital, part of the St. Joseph Health System and a sister hospital to Memorial in Santa Rosa, include compensation, benefits, employment and retention, leave administration and a human resources information system for more than 1,600 employees. It is the largest employer in Napa County.

Prior to joining the hospital, he was vice president of human resources and physicians services at CHW Health System in Sacramento. Before that, he was the vice president of HR at San Jose Medical Group and previously held a human resources management position at El Camino Hospital in the South Bay. Before working in health care, Mr. Scott held a variety of consultant and human resources management positions with the Department of Defense for 15 years, both overseas and throughout California. He’s also served as a consultant for the American Consulting Group Inc. and has been a keynote speaker and panelist for the Medical Group Management Association and the California Dialysis Association. In 1997 he was nominated for HR Executive of the Year by HR Executive Magazine and is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management Association of California. In 2001, he received his Senior Professional Human Resource certification. He lives with his wife in Fairfield.

Solina Walton

Solina Walton is president and chief executive officer of Perfect Timing Personnel Services Inc., which she started in 1988. The staffing service has offices in Larkspur and Santa Rosa and provides direct placement for a variety of companies in areas of administrative and executive assistance, accounting, marketing and human resources support. Ms. Walton, who moved from England to California and has 30 years of experience in the industry, helped bring Perfect Timing among the first  personnel agencies to go green and has forged relationships with organizations such as the Ritter Center, College of Marin and Sonoma Marin Area Rapid Transit (SMART). The company is also certified as both a Women Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council and a Small Women-Owned Business by the Small Business Association. In 2007, Perfect Timing was awarded “The Best Employment Agency” by the Pacific Sun. Ms. Walton studied language at Bradford and West Kent colleges in England.

Sandi Weimer

Sandi Weimer is the Santa Rosa branch manager for Express Employment Professionals, which is headquartered in Oklahoma City and is an offshoot of the former Acme Personnel. She moved to Santa Rosa two years ago and spent the previous 10 years in Napa and Solano counties. She’s been with Express for a total of 14 years and has more than 25 years of experience in customer service and management positions. She attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing in San Francisco and obtained an associate’s degree. Her first career was in retail management before switching to the staffing industry.

Ms. Weimer is a Certified Professional in Human Resources, a Certified Personal Consultant, a Certified Staffing Professional and has an Express University Certification in business management. She is also a member of the Northern California Human Resources Association and the Society of Human Resources Management Association.

Mark Wood

Mark Wood is currently the vice president of human resources of BioMarin, which has approximately 700 employees. He joined the pharmaceutical company in 2004 and oversees all HR functions as well as public relations and corporate communications.

Before joining BioMarin, he was a sole proprietor of an HR consulting practice from 2002 to 2004 and previously worked as vice president of human resources and consulting for AG Consulting, the manager of compensation and quantitative analysis at Genentech and held numerous HR positions with Wells Fargo Bank. Mr. Wood obtained a master’s degree in industrial relations from Cornell University and a bachelor’s in psychology and management from State University of New York, Buffalo. He is also currently the vice chair of the North Bay Leadership Council and previously served as chair of the Marin County Workforce Investment Board.
