Novato and Sonoma-based SolarCraft completed installation and commissioned a 25.9 kW solar electric system for the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art in Sonoma.  The SolarCraft photovoltaic system will supply more than 90 percent of the museum’s power needs, generating enough clean electricity each day to power 13 average homes and  sparing the air more than 23 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually.

Farmstead restaurant in St. Helena will make its next “Corkage for Community” grant to the St. Helena Community Pool on Monday, July 19, at the restaurant.   Instead of the typical $10 to $20 corkage fee charged for opening a bottle of wine brought to the restaurant, Farmstead collects a $2 fee for every guest's bottle. The unusually low corkage fee is donated to a different community-based not-for-profit organization each month.

The owner of Theresa and Johnny’s Comfort Food has opened The Pie Palace at 811 Fourth St. in San Rafael, serving sweet, savory, baked and fried hand pies.

Technology

Encompass Holdings Inc.’s wholly owned subsidiary Quadrant Data Systems Inc. in Novato completed the deployment of a redundant high-capacity connection to the Internet from its new data center on Wood Hollow Drive. The service can provide scalable dedicated bandwidth up to 1 gigabit per second between any two areas within the San Francisco Bay Area.

Wine

The Sonoma County Harvest Fair is adding a Sweepstakes Award this year, including for specialty wine as well as red and white wine. Sweet dessert red or white wines or sparkling wines will be considered for the specialty award.

Sweepstakes wines are selected from among all Best of Class wines selected by the judging panels. All Best of Class wines will be called to determine whether they have sufficient wine in stock to qualify for Sweepstakes. Winners will be announced at the Awards Night Gala on Sept. 25, and tickets will be sold at a special discount for Sonoma County Fair patrons beginning July 27.
