Santa Rosa ranks 39th in nation on 'Brainpower Index'; Vallejo, 127th

SONOMA COUNTY -- Sonoma County Economic Development Board Executive Director Ben Stone this morning noted that Santa Rosa ranked 39th out of 200 metropolitan areas nationwide in a measure of educational attainment.

Mr. Stone noted: "As the economy recovers, an educated work force becomes  increasingly important for an area’s economic success. Thus it’s positive indeed to see that Sonoma County (Santa Rosa MSA) is  in the upper 20 percent of regions in the U.S. in terms of educational attainment, as recently ranked by Portfolio.com in their “Brainpower Index.”

Based on scores in five areas, the publication gave Sonoma County an index of 0.721. A positive number means an above-average ranking.

The other North Bay metropolitan area indexed was Vallejo, or Solano County. It was ranked 127th, with an index of minus-0.3.
